The existing Land Transfer Tax Refund Program has been expanded to include First Time buyers of resale homes. As of December 13, 2007, first time buyers of BOTH resale homes and new homes, are now eligible for a refund from the provincial government of up to thousand dollars of the land transfer tax paid.
The GST cut from 6% to 5% is another way to save valuable dollars on the purchase of your brand new home. According to government caculations, the reduction of one more percentage point will save a family purchasing a brand new home valued at $250,000 about $1600 in GST. Further if you are a current home owner, or if you are purchasing a resale home, any of which requires repairs or renovations, or if you are buying new appliances and/or furniture, you are going to save more money on those purchases.
